Did you know that the ICMM Maritime Archaeology Committee provides international advice and support to maritime archaeology queries from around the world? The committee is chaired by ICMM Executive Council Member, Fred Hocker (The Vasa Museum – Sweden).

Yesterday Fred provided comments for CBC News in Canada on the recent discovery of sections from the munitions ship, SS Mont-Blanc involved in the Halifax Explosion of 1917. The explosion happened when this French ship carrying ammunition, collided with an empty ship, the Imo. This month Halifax marked the 107th anniversary of the 1917 explosion, which was the largest man-made explosion at the time. The blast flattened everything within a radius of more than two kilometres.
