Richard Foster Bursaries – Apply Now!
We invite applications for the ICMM Richard Foster Bursaries to assist delegates with the costs of attendance at this year’s ICMM Congress 2026 in Sydney, Australia. Bursary awards may be requested to cover the Congress fee and/or to contribute toward your estimated travel and accommodation costs.
The Richard Foster Bursaries for the 2026 Congress are supported by ICMM, the Australian National Maritime Museum, and the Australian National Maritime Museum’s United States of America Bicentennial Fund.
Eligibility
We welcome applications from individuals working at institutions and from those not affiliated to an institution. If you are not yet an ICMM Member, we strongly encourage you to become one. For more details on joining ICMM see https://icmm-maritime.org/join/
Please note that the Richard Foster Bursaries are awarded to those in most financial need, who can demonstrate a strong justification of why they would like to attend the Congress, and can explain the benefits of their attendance both for themselves and/or their institution or the wider ICMM network.
The bursaries are competitive and only those demonstrating the most compelling need will be supported. It is unlikely that applications from individuals working at larger organisations such as Category 4 Full Members (see the ICMM Membership table: https://icmm-maritime.org/join/membership-categories) will be successful, unless a strong rationale is provided.
All costs should be stated in Euros (€). We are keen to encourage a diverse range of delegates at Congress 2026 from all parts of the globe, and particularly welcome applicants from the southern hemisphere. The Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) is providing additional support for individuals working in maritime museums in Australia and, through ANMM’s United States of America Bicentennial Fund, for those working in maritime museums in the United States.
